The Clouds Rest Loop via John Muir Trail is a 30.6-mile loop located in Yosemite National Park. From Tuolumne Meadows, the loop follows the John Muir Trail (JMT) south to the Clouds Rest Trail, which leads to Clouds Rest, one of Yosemite's most spectacular panoramic views. This route is considered moderate to strenuous and is suitable for hikers, trail runners, and backpackers who are comfortable with long, steep climbs.
Starting at Tuolumne Meadows, take the JMT south for 14 miles until you reach the Clouds Rest Trail junction. Ascend the Clouds Rest Trail, eventually reaching the hair-raising narrow ridge leading to Clouds Rest. While no special skills or gear are required for this hike, visitors are advised to take this final section slowly and approach it with caution. You will be rewarded for your efforts with some of the most spectacular views overlooking Yosemite Valley and beyond (including views of Half Dome).
After leaving Cloud's Rest, the trail becomes a little easier with less climbing as it heads toward Tenaya Lake. You will follow the trail around the southern shore of Tenaya Lake before continuing to head east, parallel to Tioga Pass Road until you reach Tuolumne Meadows.
