The drive-in Vermilion Ridge Campground at Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park is one of the newest campgrounds in the Minnesota State Park system having opened in 2017. The campground has 32 sites all of which have electric pedestals with 30-amp and 50-amp outlets. There are three handicap accessible sites. There are three pull-through sites at the campground, the rest of the sites are back-in. Most sites can accommodate 50-foot-long RVs, and some have even longer pads. The campground is open from early May until late October. The campground has a bathroom with showers as well as three vault toilets. There is a dump station near the campground.
There is generally good separation between sites. The campground is fairly open, but most sites have partial shade. Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. Firewood is available for sale at a self-service station near the restroom/shower building. The campground even has Wi-Fi. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the campground, but not in the restroom.
There are also three group sites, and eight camper cabins near the drive-in campground. For campers interested in hiking, the Vermilion Ridge Tail and the Crosscut Trail are accessible from the campground. A boat launch and picnic area on Lake Vermilion are a short distance from the campground.
In addition to the camping fees, there is a fee to enter the park; a day use or annual permit can be purchased at the park office. All the sites can be reserved online or by phone.
