Eaton Saddle Trailhead

Eaton Saddle Trailhead is a historic site now converted to a popular trailhead located off Mount Wilson Road, between the Red Box Picnic Area and Mount Wilson Observatory, within Angeles National Forest. This scenic site features paved parking spaces on both sides of the road, informational plaques to learn about the history of the area, and scenic views of the Los Angeles Basin. 

A short hike from Eaton Saddle will take you to Mueller Tunnel and the Mount Lowe Scenic Railway. Built in 1893, the Mount Lowe Railway transported city dwellers to a mountain retreat surrounded by nature. A series of devastating events over the course of several years severely affected the 5.8-mile long railway and the resort it brought people to, resulting in its closure in 1936.
