Trumbull Lake Campground is a large basic campground perched near the beginning of the Virginia Lakes area.
Containing 43 sites, each of which include a picnic table, fire pit and food lockers, the campground is spacious, with sites located beneath a canopy of pine trees off of a grid of well graded dirt roads. While the campground itself feels nestled into the forest, immediately upon pulling out of the campground visitors can view the majestic peaks that enclose the canyon. It's also possible to get a feel for this on Trumbull Lake, where boating and fishing is permitted.
A small rough gravel road heads lakeside, as well as a walking path that encircles the lake, though gets a bit rough along the scree where the lake meets the mountain base.
Visitors should be prepared for temperatures that are significantly cooler than those in the Mono Lake Basin below. In fact snow unpredictable snow conditions in this area make it hard to predict when the seasonal opening for the campground occurs each year.
All sites are basic, and can fit small to medium RVs in the parking area, but none of which have hook ups of any kind. Vault toilets are set throughout the campground, and water spigots can be found throughout.
A campground host offers firewood bundles for sale.
During the warmer season, a small restaurant and groceries can be found at the Virginia Lakes Resort is located across Virginia Lake Road.
While many sites can be reserved in advance at Recreation.gov, several sites remain available strictly on a first come, first served basis.
