The route described here is a 17.6-mile out-and-back from the North Lake Campground to Humphreys Basin. The trailhead is located 20 miles southwest of Bishop and a few hours north of Los Angeles, California. Humphreys Basin is a high elevation glacially carved basin with much of the terrain taking place at or above 11,000 feet. The route features a vast and expansive landscape with several beautiful alpine lakes, including Desolation Lake and Humphreys Lake. The trek will take you through lodgepole pine forests, across various meadows, and into a beautiful basin surrounded by towering granite peaks. While this adventure can be explored in one day, it is best enjoyed as an overnight trek. The trail is suitable for running, hiking, and backpacking.
