Woods Lake Campground is a small campground located centrally to the variety of hiking trails spread throughout the Carson Pass backcountry.
With 25 sites that operate exclusively on a first come, first serve basis, it's understandable that this campground tends to be full during the peak season. It's set about a quarter mile from Woods Lake, a small alpine lake with picnic benches, picturesque granite rocks to jump from, and a shore popular for fishing from. Additionally, reaching the campground requires driving a short distance down a winding narrow road where trailers are recommended, and the campground itself is set along a spacious loop road, granting a good amount of privacy between neighboring camp sites.
The dense trees provide ample shade for campers. Some sites are set on uneven granite slopes, so there is something to be said for arriving early during busier times so you have your choice of available sites.
A couple vault toilets serve the campground and water is available from spigots, however there are no showers.
Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and bear locker. There are two double sites available.
At 8200' in elevation, Woods Lake's operating schedule can vary depending on snow conditions. However during winter the closed campground area provides a good snowshoeing destination.
Campers can pay at the self-pay kiosk at the campground entrance. A camp host is onsite.
