Hampshire Rocks Campground

Hampshire Rocks Campground is a high elevation camp located along the South Yuba River in the I-80 corridor of the Sierra Nevada.

The campground is easy to access, lying almost immediately off of the highway in a dense grove of lodgepole pine. 30 total sites make up the campground, with most of the sites along the river-side of the single road having small use paths leading right down to the water.

Sites are basic, with only a table, a locker to protect food from bears and a fire pit. And given the highway noise, Hampshire Rocks is more desireable for its proximity to all of the other High Sierra locations and features than it is as a campground on its own. Though if campers are looking to dip more than their feet in the river, a more sizeable swimming area is located just outside the campground and about 100 feet downstream, where the water is calm but wide enough to float around in.

There is a single pull through site (Site 10), while all others have a small back in space, making the campground only accommodating for small to mid-size trailers. 

Several of the camp sites can be reserved ahead of time online, while others are first come, first serve only. However there tends to be open sites at this campground.

Potable water and a couple vault toilets are located throughout the campground.

At high elevation, temperatures can be cool here. The campground is generally open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, but closes based on winter conditions.
