Wai'olena Beach Park is one of numerous beach parks along Kalanianaole Street near Hilo. Wai'olena appeal is that it is often overlooked in favor of other nearby larger parks.

Containing a couple covered picnic areas on a grassy lawn shaded by a line of tall palms, Wai'olena sits above a lava rock shelf full of tide pool life. With a rocky coastline, the park doesn't have favorable swimming conditions, however a couple large pool areas act as breakwaters allowing visitors to hunt around the rocks for tidal life like crabs. Stone steps lead to the tide pool area. Green sea turtles also visit the park frequently when feeding within the pool areas.

The covered picnic pavilions offer great views of the sea, and tend to remain available a little later on days when other larger parks fill up, though on weekends, the picnic areas here will also be full quite frequently.

There is no drinking water available in Waiolena Beach Park, though there are showers and outhouses. The small parking lot can handle a few cars. There is street parking available if the lot is full.

Wai'olena Beach Park is open from 7am until sunset daily.
