Pahoehoe Beach Park is a smaller beach park a little south of the main Kona tourism district.
The park is modest, with a spacious lawn with picnic tables, plenty of shade trees, benches atop a low seawall at the shore's edge, and a small beach area. The beach is a mix of coral rocks and sand, and because it is so rough, Pahoehoe isn't a great beach for accessing the water, laying out, or swimming in.
The park tends to be more popular with picnickers and fishermen. One of the park's best features is that you will usually be able to find it much less crowded than other busier nearby parks such as Magic Sands or Kahalu'u.
Because of the coral stone, there are some interesting formations just offshore for divers. The snorkeling here is great past the reef, but involves first getting across the shallow and sharp reef from the shore.
Parking is located on street on either side of Ali'i Drive. Again, during peak seasons, you may find a parking spot at Pahoehoe in much less time than trying to find a space at one of the busier parks nearby.
There are showers, a drinking fountain and trash at the park. There are no bathrooms and no lifeguard.
