Big Caliente Hot Spring

The Big Caliente Hot Springs are located in the Upper Santa Ynez Recreation Area of the Los Padres National Forest. This primitive pool is shaded by a large pine tree. Its warm waters flow into a cement tub for soaking. Although this hot spring is secluded in the backcountry, it is well known in the area and can get busy on the weekends. For a more private and secluded soak, weekdays and non-holidays are recommended. There is no camping at the hot spring, it is day use only and the hours of use are from 6am-10pm.

The hot spring can be reached via hiking and biking, as well as by car, although high clearance vehicles are recommended. It is important to keep in mind that wet weather can lead to dangerous road conditions, and for this reason some gates in the area are locked.
