Greenhorn Park is a sizable park located just a few minutes drive from downtown Yreka, California. Opportunities for leisure and recreation are to be found here, as well as some historical sites of interest.
There are two main areas of the park, Upper Greenhorn and Lower Greenhorn. Both areas feature picnic areas, playgrounds, restrooms and plenty of open space for recreation including horseshoe pits. The lower area even features a soccer field.
Greenhorn Reservoir can be accessed from either the upper or lower area, and is a great place to enjoy a stroll on the paved pathway, or to dip a line in the water and try your hand at fishing.
A variety of trails lead up the hillside to the south of the reservoir and can be used to create a number of different hiking loops of varying length.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Greenhorn Park can be found on the Miners Trail. Here you’ll walk past some reconstructed buildings and equipment that were used in the area for mining. A blacksmith shop and carriage house, assay office, stamp mill and arrastra are all found here.
