Campers will find a beautiful wooded campground in Pennsylvania’s Locust Lake State Park. Located in Schuylkill County, in the eastern part of the state, this campground has 282 campsites and offers a variety of outdoor activities.
Designated tenting only is permitted on the north side of the lake, while tent and trailer campsites are available on the opposite side of the lake. The campsites are in wooded areas and include a parking pad, picnic table, fire ring and a cleared area for camping equipment. Camping pad lengths range from 18’ to 68’. Some sites have electricity. For those interested in walk-to tent sites, they are available via a short walk from a parking area. Pets are permitted only at designated sites. Modern restrooms with flush toilets and showers are conveniently located throughout the campground. A sanitary dump station is also available.
In between the two sides of the campground is the 52-acre Locust Lake. A road leading alongside the lake connects the two parts of the campground. In addition, the paved 1.3 mile Bicycle Trail circles the lake and provides a pleasant way to bike or walk throughout the campground. The trail leads to the amphitheater, sandy beach with lake swimming, boat launch, camp store, playground and an ADA accessible fishing pier. The paved trail also leads to 6.75 miles of hiking trails in the park.
Campers may rent canoes, kayaks, double kayaks, rowboats or motorboats by visiting the camp store. The store also has food and supplies, including firewood, as well as souvenirs and ice cream. A public phone is also located at the store. A park office and visitor center is 6 miles away at Tuscarora State Park.
Note: a Locust Lake State Park sign along Moss Glen Road does not mark the park entrance. This rough, dirt road leads to an abandoned fire tower. Follow Locust Lake Road to the park entrance.
