Anahola Beach Park Campground is one of several County operated campgrounds spread across the island. Similar to others, the site is a beach park, where when evening hours hit, park visitors are encouraged to clear out and campers are welcome to pitch their tent on the lawn in a first come, first serve fashion. Visitors are also able to enjoy everything that Anahola Beach Park has to offer.

The benefit of this is that those campers arriving early, or those who visit during slower seasons, can get a spot at the edge of the lawn just a handful of feet above the water. The downside of this is that in reality, it's more a controlled chaos of daytime visitors clearing out and nighttime visitors moving in.

As per the County of Kauai's rules for camping, everyone staying here must sleep in a tent (no hammocks, no vehicles), though cars park in a couple different parking lots. So those aiming for the prime spots won't be able to have their vehicles next to them.

One of the best parts of camping is the price. Campers must obtain a permit from the county prior to arriving. These permits are available for $3 per person per night for non-residents. While there is an online portal for obtaining a camping permit it can be confusing, and recommend you call the county offices where they provided a huge amount of help in making navigating through the site much easier.

Picnic tables, cold showers and flush bathrooms are all available at the camping area. This may be one of the most picturesque showers you've taken on the island.

There does seem to be some elements that make the campground a little less enjoyable. The park remained busy, with cars driving up and down the gravel parking lot driveway throughout the night. The changing formations of junked vehicles lining the road seemed a bit off-putting and strange as well. However, aside from these, the experience was amazing.

Accessing the campground can be done via Kukuihale Road. The campground is closed to the public each Thursday beginning at 10 AM and reopens the following day at noon for maintenance. For additional information, see Kauai County's campground rules and guidelines.
