Brennecke Beach is a popular sandy cove on Kauai's southern shore that has two primary draws: it has waves that crash both near and slightly further out from shore making it an ideal beach for all levels of boogie boarders, and the green turtles that frequent its waters.
Set adjacent to Poipu Beach Park which has amenities like bathrooms, showers, shade benches, and a spacious lawn, Brennecke Beach is a smaller beach set in a cove with rocks on either side. The main downside of the beach is that there is limited parking, and Brennecke has a tendency to fill up fast on weekends and throughout the peak tourism season, so visitors should aim to arrive early.
Surfing is not permitted close to shore, but surfers can sometimes be seen riding the waves further out.
Visitors should check on surf conditions before entering the water, as this beach is more susceptible to changing surf and tide conditions than other more reef-protected beaches.
It is best to park at Poipu Beach Park and walk over to Brennecke Beach.
