Longbow Arch

Longbow Arch is accessible via a fairly short hike that begins from the Poison Spider Trailhead. This arch is less popular than others nearby such as Corona Arch, so it is a great option if looking for a less crowded hike. In addition there are dinosaur tracks and petroglyphs near the trailhead.

The hike begins by climbing up near the hillside where the dinosaur tracks and Native American petroglyphs are located. If you haven’t checked this area out yet I’d strongly recommend doing so. The trail then continues to climb somewhat steeply along a narrow stretch of slickrock. There is even a short section where metal rungs have been drilled into the rock to help hikers up the trail.

After finishing the slickrock section the trail mellows out and enters into an almost otherworldly landscape featuring stunning sandstone rock formations and sandy terrain. The trail then alternates between sand and slickrock, with faint green blazes in places painted onto the rock to help guide the way.

Just before the arch the trail turns east and travels up a side canyon. The terrain here turns a bit rocky, but before long you’ll see the beautiful 60 foot Longbow Arch to the left. An unofficial but well traveled path will take you up underneath the arch. When finished enjoying the arch return the way you came back to the trailhead.
