Lava Flow Campground

As the only developed campground in Craters of the Moon National Monument, Lava Flow Campground is justifiably popular with the one-nighters and other short-term campers. Sites are all first-come, first-served and turn over frequently. This is a spectacular campground, set among the volcanic rocks of the lava flow and offering great views of the surrounding hills.

There are two sections to the campground. The back section does not allow larger RVs and has small sites and sharp corners. The front section allows all campers and has some very long sites for RVs. All sites are set in black volcanic rock, and care should be taken in walking around or parking because these rocks are very sharp. Sites are paved with gravel tent pads, and there are vault toilets and drinking water.

Because this is a non-reserveable campground, early arrival is a good idea, but there is so much turnover that finding a spot is generally not difficult.
