Blue River Campground is located 10 minutes north of Dillon Reservoir in Colorado's Summit County in the eastern shadow of the Gore Mountain Range and on the west bank of the pristine Blue River. This 25-site campground is convenient to access off of the I-70 corridor, but it has a far more rustic and wild vibe than the more established campgrounds circling Dillon Reservoir. Each campsite has fire rings and grills and a picnic table with access to vault toilets, but you'll have to pack in all your water because none is provided on-site.

Fisherman tend to frequent the campground, but it also serves as a base camp for some of the high altitude adventures located in the Gore Mountain's Eagles Nest Wilderness including:

  • The 5.7-mile round-trip hike to Lower Boulder Lake via the North Rock Creek Trailhead.
  • Boss Mine hike (4.2 miles round-trip) via the North Rock Creek Trailhead.
  • Upper Slate Lake hike (22.4 miles round-trip) via the North Rock Creek Trailhead.
  • Willow Lakes and Salmon Lake hike (12.6 miles round-trip) via the Willow Creek Trailhead.

Note: Blue River Campground is typically closed from early May through the end of September. For details, call the Dillon Ranger Station at 970.468.5400.
