The Cliffs of Moher are one of the most visited tourist attractions in all of Ireland. The cliffs allow you to seemingly stand on the edge of the world as you gaze out over the vast ocean and stare down at the towering cliffs. These cliffs range from approximately 600 to 700 feet, and they stretch for about 5 miles along the coast. The signature ocean views, cliffs, windy weather, a castle, and expansive green pastures filled with grazing sheep provide a quintessential Irish experience.

The cliffs are located on the far west coast of Ireland about 90 minutes away from the historic city of Galway. The cliffs got their name from an old military fort, Mothar, that was once located on the edge of the cliffs but was destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars of the 1800s.

There is a hiking trail that journeys for miles on the cliff edge and provides a leisurely and scenic stroll along the historic landmark. The cliffs are undeniably beautiful, but be prepared for any type of weather. It is almost consistently windy, but rain storms and fog can settle in without notice, even on the sunniest of days. There is a nice visitor center located next to the main parking area. It has restaurants, a gift shop and small exhibits with information regarding the history of the area.

The Cliffs of Moher is one of the most photographed and heavily-visited destinations in the world, and it is a cherished natural landscape by the people of Ireland.
