Kuhio Beach, also known as the Ponds, is a semi-protected beach park situated along the stretch of Waikīkī coastline. Originally owned by Prince Kuhio and his wife, the beach access was turned over to the state following his death in 1922. Rock jetties were built to improve beach nourishment efforts and now offer some protection from the breaking waves, forming two calm swimming ponds that are perfect for children and families alike. The beach, being part of Waikīkī, is well maintained and features broad, soft, white sand, a boardwalk, outdoor rinse showers, and picnic shelters.

Kuhio Beach is home to two of Waikīkī's most famous surf breaks, Queen's and Canoes, which lie to the west. To the east off of the rock jetty is a popular body boarding area known as Kapahulu Groin, which is off-limits to surfers and can be accessed by a small walkway. The popularity of Kuhio Beach in the surfing community runs deep because it is the site for surfing tournaments as well as the statue of the famed surfer and champion Olympic swimmer, Duke Kahanamoku, known as the "father of modern surfing." The Duke's statue is frequently adorned with leis and is one of the most photographed locations in Waikīkī. So take a walk along the coast to access adjacent sections of Waikīkī Beach and see the iconic Royal Hawaiian Hotel, or sit and enjoy the sunshine while watching surfers catch endless waves. Either way, views of Diamond Head and the open Pacific Ocean make Kuhio Beach a popular destination for Waikiki's numerous visitors.
