Gros Ventre Campground

With seven campgrounds to choose from in Grand Teton National Park, why choose Gros Ventre?

For many people, it is the ideal campground in the park.

It is the closest campground to the town of Jackson, with its many amenities and services, yet there is a definite feeling of remoteness and quiet at Gros Ventre. There is no lodge or village nearby to add to congestion and traffic, and it is less than a 30-minute drive to many of the most popular park attractions—Mormon Row, Jenny Lake, and popular overlooks like Schwabacher's Landing or Snake River. Being right on the Gros Ventre River, wildlife, especially elk and moose, is frequently seen in or near the campground.

Gros Ventre is a huge campground with several loops widely separated along a main access road. Some loops are tent-only, and “D” Loop has electric hookups for RVs. The “A” Loop is a favorite with many due to its views of the Tetons, popularity with wildlife, and open space between sites. There is a large amphitheater with regular ranger programs and a dump station. The campground is first-come, first-served only, but it seldom fills, except the electric loop.
