Nested at the base of the Makua Valley with the Waianae Mountains as a backdrop, Makua Beach is an amazing place to relax and enjoy the water.

The beach is located just past the nearby Kaneana Cave with parking at the northern tip of the beach. Situated toward the end of a paved road, it is one of the more secluded beaches on the western coast of O'ahu. The beach is rarely crowded and boasts a vast expanse of white sand and rolling waves. Makua Beach has more shade than some of the other beaches in this area, with trees lining the rear portions of the shore. There is a small tide pool where children can play, provided that the surf is not too big.

During the winter months there can be some larger surf, which attracts more experienced surfers. Parking here can be difficult, especially on more popular weekends and after it has rained, when the parking lot turns into a mud-puddle mess.

Dangerous swell and currents are possible, especially during winter months. Check wave conditions before entering the water.

A beautiful, typically tourist-free beach, where you will almost certainly find locals surfing and barbecuing. Also a great place to watch/photograph sunset!
