White River Ski Tour

White River Canyon is a popular spot for all kinds of winter recreation. The lower area is popular for sledders, cross-country skiers, and snowshoers, while great backcountry skiing can be found further up the canyon. 

What makes White River so great is the variety in terrain. On storm days, the best skiing can be found on the flanks of the canyon where you'll find short and playful skiing. On sunny spring days, you can make it all the way up to the Steel Cliffs at 9,500 feet and enjoy a ski of a few miles back to your car. 

The tour starts with a pleasant 1.5-mile tour up to the tree line. To the west you'll find short and playful lines. Further up the canyon, the prominent Fin holds some good turns that you can lap all day. On clear and calm days, going higher on the mountain allows for long and mellow runs. 

Be aware of the many terrain traps located within the canyon, and be sure to pay attention to your route and carry navigational tools such as a GPS and/or map and compass.
