The Ipsut Creek Campground is located approximately 5 miles from the Carbon River entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. Due to flooding in 2006, the road is inaccessible to vehicles. The campground is now regulated as a backcountry site, so for overnight stays, make sure to stop at the Carbon River Ranger Station for a permit. Having easy access to the Carbon River Ranger Station provides a safe option for big groups, families, and first time backpackers.

Since it was once a drive-in campground, there are bear boxes at every site, solar powered toilets, and fire pits. It is important to note that fires are prohibited, as it is now a backcountry site. There are several beautiful day hikes for all hiking abilities. You will pass the Chenius Falls and Green Lake trails on your way out to the Ipsut Creek Campground, or continue 8 miles from the campground to get to the Carbon Glacier Trail.  You can also head along the Wonderland Trail to Mowich Lake for more hiking and camping options.

The incredible Carbon River backs directly up to the campground, giving generous options for fishing, swimming, and relaxing. Make sure to venture the extra 0.2 miles to see the beautiful Ipsut Falls
