The view from the summit of Nannie Peak is well worth the steep uphill hike from Walupt Lake. From the summit you can see Mount Adams to the south, Mount St. Helens to the southwest, and to the north you look directly into Goat Rocks with Mount Rainier looming above. The long flat summit of Nannie Peak is fun to explore, as each view from its various overlooks offers a new vista of the surrounding mountains, forests and iridescent alpine lakes.

The hike to the summit starts from Walupt Lake Campground along the lake, near campsite 37. The trail quickly leaves the lake and begins to climb the toward the ridge. A long series of switchbacks through the forest continues for approximately 2.5 miles until you reach the exposed southeastern face with a short spur trail to the summit.

This hike can be done as a day hike or included in a larger loop starting from Walupt Lake that follows the shore of the lake to the PCT and back around Nannie Peak and down this same trail. There are a number of backcountry camping spots on the trail and along the PCT if you want to make it a multi-day trip.

Note: Substantial portions of the trail may retain snowpack into mid-summer and may require some wayfinding.
