Utah has always been known for offering some world-class trout fishing, and the Middle Provo River has a great network of seven access points to get you into the action with ease starting at the southern end of the Jordanelle Reservoir and continuing down to Deer Creek Reservoir. There are parking lots with bathrooms and information signs at each location. Brown trout are the most common fish to end up in the net, but you can find cutthroat, rainbow, whitefish, and even some carp. The common width of the river is between 10 and 30 feet, but it gets up to 50 feet wide at some points. The Middle Provo is over 12 miles long, so there is room for everyone. Wading is the most common method used here, but there are many shore casting opportunities for anyone that doesn't have a pair of waders.
The fall colors in this area are fantastic, but of course it is fun to cast a dry fly or a terrestrial in the warmer months. The weather is usually cooler here than in Salt Lake City, so it is a great escape on hot summer days. Moose, hawks, hummingbirds and deer are also common on the shores and in the air.
The directions bring you to the River Road South Access Point, which is the most commonly known starting point. All access points are all within a short drive of each other, and each location offers a ton of river frontage.
