A long, wide stretch of sand backed by a beautiful lagoon and tall cliffs is the best way to describe Big Lagoon County Beach. Unlike many nearby beaches, such as Dry Lagoon and Stone Lagoon, there is a fee for parking near this beach, but some might find the $5 worth the expansive beach and access to the pristine Big Lagoon. The length and lack of sea stacks makes this a beach combing paradise. If one walks far enough south they will be on Agate Beach, part of Patrick's Point State Park, where many people come in search of the clear stones.

The adjacent Big Lagoon is referred to as a lagoon and not a lake because occasionally the sand wall breaches from wave action and build up of water, releasing the waters of Big Lagoon into the ocean. When this occurs fresh and salt water mix creating a unique environment where unique species thrive. Some fish and invertebrate species require seasonal mixings of these waters in order to complete their life cycles.
