Cherry Creek State Park is one of Denver’s biggest, and it offers some of its most diverse activities. Those who visit here have the opportunity stay the night at the Cherry Creek State Park Campground. The campground features 152 sites, making it among the larger campgrounds in the Denver metro area. Open year round, it offers spacious RV and tent sites, each with its own dedicated parking spur. Full hookups are available on RV sites. Not the rustic wilderness camping experience, facilities at Cherry Creek include laundry facilities in addition to coin-operated showers. Group sites are similarly lavish, featuring covered areas and an outdoor sink area.
Among the regular hiking, biking, and paddling opportunities at Cherry Creek State Park, which are abundant and well-developed, the park offers activities that are unusual or unusually well-maintained for a park setting. The 4,000-acre park includes, at its heart, the Cherry Creek Reservoir, an 880 surface-acre waterway with motorized and non-motorized boat access. It features several miles of trails. The Family Shooting Center offers gun ranges for pistols, rifles, shotguns (including traps), and archery, open to the public. Suhaka Field’s miniature runways and taxiways provide a home to Denver’s model aircraft hobbyists, and a well-kept off-leash dog area is a slice of canine paradise. All told, there’s plenty of activity at Cherry Creek to span an overnight for visitors and Denver locals alike.
