Trout Brook Valley Preserve Mountain Biking

The Trout Brook Valley Preserve is a true conservation success story. Once owned by the Bridgeport Hydraulic Company, this land adjacent to the Saugatuck Reservoir was slated for the development of a residential community that would have included a golf course and over 100 houses. Through the monumental efforts of a team of organizations led by the Aspetuck Land Trust and the Coalition to Preserve Trout Brook Valley, 685 acres of land were purchased in 1999; Aspetuck Land Trust now manages the land. Over 20 miles of trails exist here, many of which are multiple use. Hikers, bikers, and equestrians all enjoy this space, and hunting is also allowed in season and with a permit.

In terms of the mountain biking, Trout Brook Valley Preserve offers some beautiful forest scenery with excellent singletrack trails. There is good cross-country riding available with a few technical sections. The trails are very rocky and rooted in some areas, which will definitely challenge your handling abilities. Trails are well marked with various options throughout the forest. More than 12 miles can easily be ridden when combining the trails. A double track runs through the park, marked white, and this offers a strenuous 800-foot climb. Otherwise, the singletrack trails offer excellent technical uphill. The blue, green and white trails are fit for beginners. Bikes are prohibited on some trails, so be sure to check the map for info on this. 

Note that the trails are closed from January 1 through April 30 and after heavy rains.
