Lake Arrowhead

Set in the beautiful San Bernardino high country, Lake Arrowhead is a picturesque retreat among the pines. It is privately owned and formed by a dam, so its is not the most natural or remote of destinations, but it makes a comfortable and convenient stop when traveling Rim of the World Highway or among the numerous hiking trails and overlooks in the mountains.

Those who are looking for one night of luxury will appreciate the abundant resorts, restaurants, and shopping around the lake. Strolling the shores is a pleasant way to spend the afternoon, and they are open to everyone. Getting in the water, however, is only an option for those with private boat launches and a lake use permit. Paying for an entrance to one of the resorts allows you to swim or rent kayaks.

Despite the exclusivity, this is an extremely popular getaway for families and retirees from Southern California cities. If the crowds become too much, Lake Arrowhead is only a skip away from wilder and less-traveled destinations in the San Bernardino Mountains.
