Fossil Falls Campground is adjacent to the Fossil Falls Trail along California's Highway 395 below the eastern Sierra.
Managed by the BLM and containing 11 sites at a uniform rate of $6.00 per night, the campground is sparse with no amenities except for a water pump and a vault toilet. But what it lacks in features, it makes up for in isolation and the scenic surroundings of the nearby mountains.
California's Highway 395 corridor is a relatively low-trafficked gem, and a stay at the Fossil Falls Campground and hike to the falls allow one to take advantage of this. There are no barriers between many of the sites, but that won't matter if you have the campground to yourself.
RV sites really only consist of a large gravel turnaround for medium-sized RVs to comfortably fit on. Each site has a picnic table and a firepit grill. There is no shade at any of the sites, so the hot summer may not be the ideal season for a stay here. There is no trash collection at the campground, so plan on packing out all of your trash. The nearest grocery stores are in Ridgecrest and Lone Pine, both about 40 miles away, so come prepared.
