The North Fork of the South Platte River is a beautiful stretch of river offering swimming holes, ideal floating conditions, and some of Colorado's best fly fishing. Once you're on Highway 96 near Foxton, you'll see a number of designated parking areas for recreation along the river. You'll want to bring your own tube and be sure that you enter and exit on public land as the river passes through private property in places.

If  you make it to the confluence of the rivers you'll see the remains of the South Platte Hotel originally constructed in the 1890s. Steven Decker built a general store and saloon, making this a popular destination in the early 1900s that was only accessible by train.

Be sure to practice Leave No Trace principles when spending time along the river. No overnight activities are permitted in this area.
