The newest campground, Sockeye, is also the most popular at Redfish Lake. With only 23 first-come, first-served sites, it can often be hard to secure a site on summer weekends. Sockeye Campground is popular for a few reasons. It's the farthest campground from the lodge, the sites are well-spaced under the cover of lodgepole pines, and this is perhaps the most impressive location to view the Sawthooth Mountains and Mount Heyburn. The campground is also situated in close proximity to a number of great local hiking trails. Vault toilets and potable water are available at the campground.

Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit. Firewood is available from the camp host for $6 a bundle. The Central Services dump station is about a mile away for those in need. Remember that you are in bear country, and it's important to put all your food, cooking utensils, and garbage away each night.

Redfish Lake is one of Idaho's top summer destinations, and it's easy to see why. The 5-mile by 1-mile lake offers plenty of swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, and camping opportunities, while the surrounding Sawthooth Mountains are ideal for hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding.

Be sure to check out the local trails, and there's even a ferry shuttle should you want a lift to the hiking trails at the south end of the lake. Should you need any additional provisions, stop by the General Store near the lodge for ice, propane, snacks and even ice cream treats.

This campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-September pending snow levels in the area.
