Steve’s Loop is one of many quintessential mountain bike trails to ride while in the Fruita area, and it typifies the kinds of terrain and awe-inspiring vistas that help make Fruita and the Grand Valley a world-class destination for mountain biking. This ride will take you across the tops of a series of finger-like red rock canyons, cruising high above the banks of the Colorado River, and running close enough to the canyon rim to make a few spots a bit intense in terms of exposure. This trail is enjoyable in both directions depending on which way you choose to enter from Mary’s Loop, and it can be easily added to any number of routes here in McInnis Canyon.

Tires gobble up the rocky desert trail as miles slip by with jaw-dropping scenery waiting at every turn. The ride is smooth and relatively flat, making this a fun loop to catch at the end of a long day of riding, or a short out-and-back just to see McInnis Canyon. A notable feature of this loop is the pile of rubble that interrupts the trail halfway through the ride. You'll have to dismount and complete a small scrabble up the rock pile to the finish the rest of the trail.

The last part of the loop described here puts you on the cliff face hundreds of feet above the section of trail that you just completed. Stop to take in the beautiful views of the Colorado River from here as well as watch the tiny ant-like riders snake along the canyon plateau below. Once you have experienced the trails here, it's easy to see why this ride is one of the area's best. Be sure to check out Horsetheif Bench if you are exploring more trails in this incredible trail system.
