Discovery Park is a gem of a park located at the edges of the Boise River just south of Boise. The park is just downstream from Lucky Peak Reservoir, and it has riverfront access to the cold water that flows from the bottom of the reservoir itself. The park offers an oasis of shaded grassy lawn and swimming holes in the arid Boise desert. It's a great spot to get away alone or to host a group gathering.
The park sits along the Boise River Greenbelt, so it is very accessible by bike or by foot. The park is also easily accessed from downtown along Highway 21. Because of it's easy access, there are often people utilizing the park's many amenities.
In the summer, stand-up paddleboarders, kayakers, and swimmers can be found in the river. The park is also a great place to take your dog to swim, as pets are not allowed at nearby Sandy Point Park. There are multiple shelters with benches to host gatherings; call 208.334.2432 for reservations. Additionally, a volleyball court and multiple horseshoe pits provide fun for all that visit.
Those who just wish to sit and enjoy the sights can cast a line in the river or watch the nesting hawks that call the surrounding Black Cliffs home. Deer can be seen in the hills surrounding the park as well.
Please obey signage that indicates swimming is not allowed near the dam. If you swim, please do so at the northern side of the park.
