Decades before Kings Canyon became a National Park in 1940, George Owen Knapp, a successful businessman from Santa Barbara, built a small hunting and fishing cabin along the banks of the Kings River in the heart of the canyon. The cabin was subsequently used and preserved by the Park Service with the incorporation of the land into the park, and it has since been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Built on top of a moraine rise that affords fantastic views down the canyon, Knapp's Cabin provides access to a beautiful stretch of the Kings River slightly downstream from the confluence of the Roaring River.

The cabin is located between Cedar Grove and Road's End, and it is approximately 100 yards from the highway.
