Johnny Creek Campground is located in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest just 12 miles from the town of Leavenworth. Situated at the confluence of Icicle and Johnny Creeks, the campground is split into Lower and Upper Johnny Creek campgrounds. For those wishing to have more tree coverage, the upper campground would be the perfect fit. Otherwise, enjoy access to the creek and enjoy fishing as you stay in the Lower Johnny Creek campground.
Lower Johnny Creek Campground has direct access to Icicle Creek, and a short path situated behind the campsites allows for a lovely walk along the creek. All of the sites are a wonderful size and provide tree coverage as well as open space for clear views of the night sky. Lower Johnny Creek is a bit smaller than its sibling, and the two are just 1 mile from one another. The campground host, as well as firewood, can be found in the upper campground. There are 65 sites between the two campgrounds.
There are no extra amenities here, just your basic essentials. Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table. Lower Johnny has two newly renovated bathroom facilities and a centrally located potable water station. Though this area appeals to those staying in tents, Lower Johnny can also can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 30 feet in length. Upper Johnny has more space to comfortably fit trailers up to 50 feet. Note that there are no hookups in the campground. Some sites specify a minimum of two vehicles with a maximum of five vehicles at Upper Johnny. There are also a handful of walk-up sites that are tucked away and provide more privacy and isolation.
Though Johnny Creek Campground is the largest campground on Icicle Road, it fills up quickly and does not accept reservations. The location is near to a variety of outdoor adventures, including hikes, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting. Johnny Creek Campground is open April 20 through October 15.
