Tucked away on the banks of Cooper Lake, Owhi Campground is a great place to camp if you are looking for serenity. No motorized boats are allowed on the lake, making it quiet and ideal for canoeing, kayaking, or fishing for trout.

Owhi's 22 primitive campsites are walk-ins around 200 feet from the parking area, giving the campground a distinct backcountry feel. Many of the sites are tucked back into lush bushes under tall fir trees, and some more open sites are right on the lake shore with views out onto the water. Snowy peaks and tree-covered ridges surround the peaceful lake, adding to the feeling of being away from civilization while you camp.

If you would like to hike during your stay at Owhi, there are numerous trails in the area. Stroll down Cooper River toward Salmon la Sac, or follow the trail to Pete Lake from the north end of Cooper Lake. Another option is to drive to the Salmon la Sac Trailhead and explore Polallie Ridge or the trail to Waptus Lake, which links up with the famous Pacific Crest Trail.

We were there in Mid July and arrived mid week. Beautiful and quiet until Friday. Very noisy and crowded on the weekend. I would advise to go mid week and leave before the weekend crowd comes. Too much loud partying going on. Campground also got blasted with loud music very late at night. It is a beautiful spot and would go again. Just not on the weekend. This is the second time we went and both times the weekends were awful

Lovely campground but the sites fill up very quickly. We arrived at 4 PM on Friday to find that everything was full. We then trekked to one of the "boat in" sites across the lake. The campground is best suited for families with children and is definitely not a place for peace and quiet.

One more tip: The mosquitoes are really bad so bring powerful spray and long sleeved shirts, long pants.

Great campground to base out of if your planning a hike to Pete Lake or beyond. Can get very crowded in the summer time because of it's easy access to families and kids. The hike to Pete is fairly easy but well worth the 8 mile round trip trek. hardly any mosquitos but lots of bees do to the lack of a cold winter.
