Pilot Pinnacle is yet another of Lassen’s peaklets that rises out of the ridge that runs from Lassen Peak to Brokeoff Mountain. The distinct pinnacle stands at 8,866 feet, opening to delightful bowl descents on each aspect. The north facing bowls may be the highlight, offering fun descents down to Soda Lake 1,000 feet below.

The most direct access for Pilot Pinnacle is by way of the Mount Diller-Pilot Pinnacle saddle (see the trip report for Mount Diller). Once at the saddle, ascend the west-facing ridge up to the rock outcroppings. Contour east on the south aspect around the outcroppings, then gain the ridge closer to Pilot Pinnacle proper. From here you can access nearly any aspect.

Combine Pilot Pinnacle with a Mount Diller lap for a longer tour. If you are interested in a multi-day trip, a great base camp area can be found near Ridge Lakes. This area has excellent winter backcountry skiing options that are all quite accessible from the car park.
