At 2,100 feet, Potwisha Campground in Sequoia National Park is the first campground one finds along the twisty climb up Generals Highway after entering the park at the Ash Mountain Entrance. Shaded by a grove of live oak and sitting next to the Marble Fork of Kaweah River, the peaceful campground is one of the few in the park that is open year round. Due to it’s lower elevation, the campground rarely sees the snowfall that occurs further up the highway during winter months. Potwisha is a great offseason campground for those interested in visiting Sequoia National Park during the quieter months.

The campground is rarely busy in during the offseason, but summer is a different story; with just over 40 sites, the small campground can feel busy. Reservations for some of the campsites are available. The lower elevation also brings hot summer temperatures, and fortunately the Marble Fork is there to cool you down. The trail for Marble Falls also starts at Potwisha and leads up the Marble Fork.

Dogs are permitted in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park campgrounds on leashes less than 6 feet. Black bears and other wildlife are frequently seen in the area. Make sure to use the food lockers when camping at Potwisha.
