Nestled within the strip of resorts along Cancun's Zona Hotelera, Playa Delfines is a rare public access beach, free to park at and visit, where white sandy shores meet the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
Lying about 25 kilometers from the center of Cancun, 14 kilometers from the Cancun airport, and immediately south of the majority of the area's resort hotels, Playa Delfines consists of a parking lot that tends to fill up quickly, bathrooms and outdoor showers, children's playgrounds, sandy terraces overlooking the sea, and numerous palapas in the sand offering shade for visitors. Lifeguards are on duty during daylight hours, and waves here are generally small, making the beach family-friendly.
The name translates to Dolphin Beach, so called because of some of the area's dolphins that can sometimes be seen swimming offshore. The beach is about 100 meters long, with Cancun's resorts towering on either end and stretching into the visible distance. Also popular here is the colorful Cancun sculpture, which often has a line of people waiting their turn to take pictures. Playa Delfines is open 24 hours, however, lifeguards are only present during daytime hours. There is no cost to visit.
