When you want to enjoy a short walk in the scenic woodlands of Pennsylvania, the Lost Antler Trail is a great choice. In the southwestern region of the state, near the town of Bedford, you’ll find Shawnee State Park. Here you’ll find 16 miles of trails within a beautiful 3,983 acre park. Lost Antler Trail is a less than a mile through Pennsylvania’s iconic “Penn’s Woods.”
You can access the trail from different locations in the campground area. A trailhead sign is near site 34. Parking is limited. Start your hike here and walk through the woods to a small wooden bridge. From the bridge, the trail makes a loop, but has an option to enter the Section B camping area in two locations. If you turn left after the bridge and follow the loop, you’ll reach a fork in the trail with no sign to guide you. Stay to the right to remain on the loop. Watch for the small bridge to know when you’ve completed the loop. Cross the bridge and return via the same short entrance path.
Along the way, you’ll be treated to a pleasant walk in the woods on a wide trail with gentle slopes. Listen to the birds singing and try to spot them in the trees. Watch for wildlife including rabbits, squirrels, grouse, and deer. Notice the delicate seasonal wildflowers that adorn the path. With so much to enjoy, before you realize it, you will have completed the trail. Remember, if the trail leaves you wanting to hike more, there are still 15 miles of trails in the park to explore.
