Big Falls Hot Spring is rumored to be Belize's only, but this is not entirely true. More accurately, it may be one of the only pools formed from a hot spring currently known in the country. While several other rivers are warmed by a sources of warm vents feeding into the water, this pool is created from the flow of a warm spring. Surfacing somewhere upriver, the pool hovers in the high 70s in temperature when it gathers beside the road in Big Falls.

The spring lies beside an unsigned dirt pulloff on the north side of the highway sitting about a half-mile west of the main Rio Grande bridge in the center of town. There are no improvements to the pool except for a few stones placed to help hold the water in the pool area. Since Belize tends to be pretty warm year-round, and the pool is only about knee deep, the hot spring is comfortable for a quick stop or may be nice on a cool night. Litter in the area makes it slightly less than scenic for hanging out for a lengthy period of time. Take note, and do your part to keep the hot spring clean.
