Moho River Kayaking

The Moho River is a slow meandering river in southern Belize that meets the Caribbean south of the town of Punta Gorda. The slow moving river is remarkably hot, owing to underwater heat vents along its course. Its relaxed pace means that after putting in, paddlers can follow the river in either direction, though generally starting by heading upstream makes the return trip easier.

This is a jungle experience, and the lack of development means that quite a distance will go by with nowhere to stop on the banks. Jungle kayak tours are offered by contacting the Cotton Tree Lodge in advance, and some tour options combine guided paddles with hikes through the jungle upriver from the start point, though the lodge will also rent kayaks by the hour as well. The lodge also offers a guided tour in which paddlers are shuttled upriver and kayak back to the Lodge's riverside dock. Those looking for a chance to swim may find a spot on the banks to pull over at so they can experience the warm waters of the Moho.
