Gee Campground

Gee Campground is a basic 55-site campground located in the center of world-class whitewater, great trout, perch, and bass fishing, and miles of hiking trails situated between the Hiwassee River and the small Gee Creek Wilderness in the Cherokee National Forest. This makes it a great base of operations for hiking, fishing, and floating.

Geared towards tents and small to mid-sized RVs, there are two loops comprised of of 47 single sites and 8 group sites. The state park describes this as primitive campground, but such a description is deceptive, boasting a modern clean bathhouse with showers. Each site has a picnic table, lantern pole, and fire ring. It does not have water, power or sewage hook ups, but does have a RV dump station. During peak seasons for floating and fishing, it is crowded. Reservations can be made via Tennessee State Parks. The most desirable campsites are along the river, of which A14 is probably the best. The standard price is $15/night.

Gee Campground offers access to several worthwhile destinations. A short nature trail offers fishing access, a well-maintained playground, and a boat launch for the river near the amphitheater and group campsites. The Gee Creek Trail is about 2 miles away from the campground, and many more trails are in the area throughout the national forest. The Hiwassee River offers trophy-sized trout fishing between Big Ben Parking and Reliance. The Hiwassee and Ocoee Rivers feature Class I to Class IV whitewater. The adjacent Gee Wilderness offers a short but pretty hike through its cliff-lined gorge, and the surrounding national forest has miles of trails.
