Gear Review: Snow Peak Titanium Spork

Overall, the Snow Peak Titanium Spork is a very simple utensil. There's really not much to it, but that's also what makes this a great lightweight addition to your pack. At 0.6 ounces, this titanium spork certainly gets the job done for stirring your coffee, eating your morning oatmeal, and polishing off a more-substantial meal after a day of backpacking.

The Snow Peak Spork comes in a number of color options. I suggest going with one of the brighter options, which helps when you're searching for your dinner-eating tool in a full pack. There have been a number of times that a black or silver utensil has been left behind because it can be just a little too camouflaged at a tent site, at a crowded picnic table, or when you're having to pack up in the dark. I use the bright green Snow Peak Spork, and it's always easy to spot, day and night.

The titanium material has certainly proved its worth after hundreds of uses along backpacking and camping trips. Despite being crammed into all sorts of nooks and crannies and banged up against stoves, trekking poles and other hard objects, this spork has never bent or scratched. The tines have never bent or dulled. Combining this durability with the very light weight, I'd highly recommend buying one titanium spork for less than $10 and keeping it forever rather than going through numerous $2 plastic sporks that are easy to break or melt. On that note, the titanium clearly wins out against plastic and wood around open fire and with extra-hot pots and pans.

When it comes to carrying and storage options, Snow Peak has added a nice little closed opening that allows you to clip or string this to your pack or other cooking gear. With a very low profile, this spork also fits nicely into the built-on utensil-holding options of a Jetboil or similar cooking system for safe keeping.

One of the only tradeoffs for this extra light and low-profile spork is that the length isn't always ideal for cooking and eating a dehydrated bag meal. For cooking on open flames, you're getting your hand rather close to the heat to stir with this spork. For the bag meals, you'll need to get your hand just a little bit into the bag to reach all the goodness at the bottom when using the Snow Peak Titanium Spork. Despite those minor setbacks, this is a great go-to option for stocking stuffers and small gifts for that outdoor adventurer in your life.
