Perhaps the most popular camping location in the Northern Rockies, MacDonald Campground is beautifully positioned on the northeast shore of Muncho Lake. Strawberry Flats Campground and MacDonald Campground are the only two campgrounds in Muncho Lake Provincial Park, and MacDonald Campground is approximately a 3-hour drive northwest of Fort Nelson along the Alaska Highway.

All 15 campsites are lakefront and offer visitors a front-row seat to the true wilderness beauty that is Muncho Lake Provincial Park. Muncho, meaning "big water" in the Kaska Dena dialect, is a popular destination among Alaska Highway travelers because it provides great opportunities for adventure on both land and water. The campground features a floating dock, a boat launch, vault toilets, and each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table. It should be noted that, like all provincial parks in the Northern Rockies, there are no hookups available at MacDonald, so be prepared for dry camping if you are traveling with an RV or trailer. The lake's cold, deep waters, tinted green by minerals, are home to lake trout, Arctic grayling, and whitefish. Also, there is a marshy bay on the north end of the campground that is a haven for moose that feed on the aquatic vegetation it provides.

There is firewood available for sale by the BC Parks operator, though fire bans may be in effect, so be sure to check local area information before you set out.

Special Notes: MacDonald Campground does not have a reservation system in place, and sites are on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to its popularity in the July and August months, it is advised to arrive as early as possible to increase the likelihood of finding an open unit for your needs.
