Hovering nearly 2,000 feet above the Metolius River and surrounded by thick forests of ponderosa pine, cedar, larch, and Douglas fir, Green Ridge Lookout is an extraordinary place to spend your time in Central Oregon. The lookout has windows facing every direction, and guests will enjoy a panoramic view of the Deschutes National Forest and nearby snow-covered peaks.
Apart from resting on a picturesque bluff with front-and-center views of Oregon’s second highest mountain (Mount Jefferson), visitors will also have ample opportunity for side-trips and activities. Because of its proximity to the Metolius River, anglers will have world-class fly-fishing opportunities for catch-and-release rainbow trout, kokanee and bull trout. For those looking to stretch their legs, the area offers numerous hiking opportunities through stunning forests and along pristine rivers. You’ll also have a “birds-eye” view of indigenous avians, including osprey and eagles.
As far as fire lookouts go, Green Ridge is stocked with amenities. You'll get a propane refrigerator, a fireplace and heater, a range, and an oven. The two-story cabin includes solar powered lighting (but bring a backup to be safe), a table and some chairs, basic utensils, and a wraparound deck with stunning views. There is also picnic table directly under the cabin and a nearby outhouse and fire pit. You’ll want to bring your own water, bedding, towels, soap, garbage bags, toilet paper, matches, and food. Book Green Ridge Lookout early, as reservations fill up fast!
