The Thompson Falls Dam is a great pit stop to stretch your legs. The dam was built in 1915 over a set of natural waterfalls on the Clark Fork River. It is currently operated by the NorthWestern Coporation. There is a park on the island in the middle of the river with hiking trails and scenic views. There are deer, turkey, and multipe species of waterfowl that frequent the island.

In 2008, a permit was approved to build a fish ladder. The fish ladder allows the native fish of the Clark Fork River to swim upstream to spawn. This is especially helpful for the native bull trout, which are federally protected. The ladder operates from March until October every year.
