Making up the Capitol Mall area surrounding the state capitol building, Oregon State Capitol State Park is comprised of three separate parks that were taken over by the Oregon State Parks Department in 2008.

Today, the state park contains 75 species of trees, historical and artistic installations, war memorials, statues and shaded benches, and walkways that are open to the public as a scenic and spacious park in downtown Salem. The grounds also feature several fountains and gardens. The park is typically peaceful, and the variety of statues, fountains and features give the park a calm and inviting air.

The capitol building, Oregon's third building that has housed the capitol offices and state legislature, sits in the center of the park. Though not technically part of the state park, the capitol building is open to the public during open hours, and it houses an interesting collection of art. There are also tours, and visitors can climb to the gold Oregon Pioneer statue atop the buillding's dome.

Street parking is plentiful on the streets surrounding the park. It should be noted that renovations may render many of the park's walkways and features closed to the public.
