Summer in New Hampshire wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the state’s many berry farms to pick your own strawberries and blueberries! There’s nothing like having complete control over the fruit you bring home, and this fun and relaxing activity is family friendly and fun for all ages. Berry picking can take as much or as little time as you’d like, so it is a great stop on your way back from any outdoor adventure for a healthy treat. Stock up for your next adventure, make your own jam, or add your berries to baked goods, desserts, and smoothies.

The season for strawberry picking typically starts in mid-June and ends around mid-July, depending on weather. The friendly staff at Edgewater Farm in Cornish are always welcoming visitors to their fields and will help you find the perfect row to pick from. When the strawberry season ends, head over the Bartlett’s Blueberry Farm in Newport for a new berry-picking experience. Blueberries are usually ready to be picked around mid-July, and the season runs into August. Berry fields are often open, sunny spaces with little shade, so you’ll want to be sure you wear sunscreen and bring some water to keep hydrated on hot days. If you’re unable to spend some time in the field, keep an eye out at co-ops and farmers’ markets for fresh, locally grown berries throughout the season.
